Here it is the middle of 2008 already, this year is about half gone, and so soon too. Nancy and I arrived in Western New York a week ago today to weather about the same that we left in Florida, hot in the mid 90's, but it has cooled off real nice this week, in the mid 60's to 70's with some rain.
Haven't had much activity on the Garfield Family Genealogy but that is mostly my fault, I haven't been doing a great job in getting the newsletters out and haven't been posting anything on the web. I am still working as I can on the 8th generation of the Garfields living in America. As you probably know I volunteer about 25 to 30 hours each week to the Korean War Veterans Association of which I am a member and also the State of Florida Quartermaster and have now picked up about 22 other states that don't have quartermasters. No rest for the wicked they say, but I didn't realize I was so bad.
JUST A FRIENDLY REMINDER
I just wanted to remind all our Newsletter recipients about the website's newest addition: the Edward Garfield Society. The following have received their certificates: Phyllis Coats Mills, Richard S. Mills, Judith Jebian, Jayne Pawlisa, Armanda Gorman, Marilyn Stillman, Anne Weyers, Brett Wayne Mills, James Fagerburg, Richard James Garfield and Gregg Townsend. Jayne has been working very closely with several Garfield descendents, attempting to gather documentation for their certificate. You may contact her at millsgenealogy@hotmail.com.. There are several applications pending at this time. I would like to remind all readers that there is no charge for membership in the Society. Again, the sole purpose of the Society is to preserve and honor the memory of Edward Garfield and his descendents. Jayne was able to get Edward Garfield recognized by the Winthrop Society, and is also willing to help those who are interested, in becoming members of that Society. The Society will not become a successful entity without our readers' support, so I encourage all of you to check out our homepage where information can be found regarding the Society. We were unable to download an application version, which would enable the applicant to fill in by computer. It is perfectly alright to print the application and create a reasonable facsimile. We will list all newly approved members in each forthcoming Newsletter. Again, contact Jayne if you have any questions, or are in need of help.
President James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States,
was a descendent of Edward Garfield also.
We love to get input from our readers, so send us those family stories and pictures and we will include them in the next newsletter.
I better get this sent out or the next thing I know it will be fall which reminds me, that Nancy and I, along with my sister and brother-in-law, (Jean & Merle) will be taking a 3 week Amtrak vacation starting the end of Sept until the middle of Oct from Florida to Washington, DC - Chicago, IL and on to Seattle, WA then back to Florida, spending 3 days in each of the 3 cities sightseeing.
