Catherine Elizabeth Roth Lilburne - Monday, 10/15/12, 5:57 AM

Hello to the Garfield's in America! I am descended from Caleb Garfield and Martha Robbins of Vermont, son Oscar Rawson Garfield and Mary Rice, son Sidney Oscar Garfield and Emma Lakin, dau. Winifred Garfield and Frederick Chapin Clark, dau Winifred Clark And Edward Roth, dau Catherine Elizabeth Roth, m. david Lilburne. My first cousin Wendy Clark Gannon has also been working on this. So interesting reading the website... One small question, the children of Oscar and Mary are referenced as 9:40 a-c, but they're not listed in the master index. Am I missing that information elsewhere on the site? I will attempt to fill out the requested information sheets and apply to the society. I have been researching in Vermont, and have pictures of Oscar Rawson Garfield, and the house that his father built in West Townshend VT. I will be in touch, Kind regards, Cathy Lilburne

My father was Thomas Garfield Rainey, his mother was a cousin to James A. Garfield. Her name was Gertrude Augusta Wightman Rainey. I believe her parents were Frank and Mary (Garfield) Wightman. They lived in Springfield, Mo.. I think that Mary Garfield Wightman's father was Thomas. (As our family has a cereal bowl with the initials (TG.) They were originally from around the Cleveland, Ohio area. I used to have an old newspaper clipping telling of my grandmother attending the ceremonies when James Garfield was elected president but it has gotten lost. Any information would be appreciated

Here it is fall again already, where did the summer go? Nancy and I had a really busy summer, but a lot of fun. When we went north in the spring we took 3 weeks to make the trip with many stops along the way, and coming back south again this fall we spent another 3 weeks on the road. I am now, after 10 years, no longer the quartermaster for the Korean War Veterans Association. I hope to take the time I spent on that project to be able to work on the family genealogy, I am behind, way behind on this project. We are still looking for more family information and pictures. Drop me a note and let me know what you would like added or removed from the newsletters. Thanks, Dick Garfield
ONCE AGAIN OUR GOOD FRIEND JAYNE PAWLISA HAS COME THROUGH WITH ANOTHER GREAT PIECE OF INFORMATION
A new Edward Garfield Society member, Gail Rainey Strange, sent Jayne quite a lot of information on Thomas Garfield, (a brother of  Abram Garfield) and uncle of President  James A Garfield,
it included a photocopy of the "Sheriff's Sale" of the property owned by George Garfield to Thomas Garfield in the amount of $5,500.00 the highest bid received for said property.
The copy is quite difficult to read so we are posting the typed copy that Jayne has enciphered for us.
